Starehe Boys School, Kenya
The Starehe Boys School was opened back in 1959 by a young civil servant with a mission. Dr Geoffrey Griffin set out to help needy children, not only in the provision of food, clothing and protection but also in the restoration of their self confidence, much of it lost in the poverty and misfortunes of their early years.

He also determined to provide them with the kind of education that would allow them not only to survive, but also to excel. An aim he more than achieved because the school now enjoys both an outstanding record of success and a reputation of international renown; many of its graduates having become leaders of Kenyan society and prominent figures within their community.

Perhaps the school's greatest success though is that it has allowed countless poor and disadvantaged children to achieve excellence and offered thousands of others the precious gift of learning they might otherwise have been denied.

Not only do we wholeheartedly support this inspirational work, but we also sponsor a number of children through the remarkable Starehe School.

Dagoretti Center, Kenya
The aim of the Dagoretti Children's Centre, which is a home for disabled and abandoned children, is not only to rehabilitate them into society but also to provide them with the kind of vocational training that will turn them from disadvantaged dependants into productive members of the community.

We assist by raising public awareness of the centre, by bringing it to the notice of the larger charitable organisations and by the donation of educational materials and rehabilitation aids.

Carving School, Zanzibar
During your travels you may enjoy, even purchase, some of the exquisite woodcarving work of the Zanzibari craftsmen.

What you may not so readily appreciate, however, is that unless some of the age-old skills are passed on to succeeding generations, the ancient art of carving for which the island is renowned could disappear.

We support this invaluable initiative both via the provision of tools and materials and the promotion of the work of its talented young craftsmen.

Vi inser vikten av att stödja hjälpprojekt som leder till att behövande får se sina villkor förändras till det bättre på ett bestående sätt. Dessa eldsjälar som vi samarbetar med utgör i sig viktig del i den mänskliga värme som präglar den östafrikanska kulturen. För oss som har tagit denna del av världen till vårt hjärta har det följaktligen blivit en hjärtesak att ge något tillbaka.

Efter alla dessa arbetsamma och givande år i Östafrika, där vårt systerföretag Tour Africa Safaris Ltd., Nairobi, Kenya, varit verksamt i mer än ett kvarts sekel, är föresatsen att fortsätta att arbeta för dessa program starkare än någonsin.

Den största framgången som denna hängivna skola har uppnått är att den har lyckats ge ett så stort antal fattiga och underprivilegierade barn högre utbildning och givit tusentals andra en kunskapsgrund som de utan skolans hjälp aldrig skulle ha fått. Skolan har lyckats sällsynt väl med sina studenter, varav många fått ledande positioner i det kenyanska samhället och blivit goda förebilder.

Detta är inte bara ett hem för övergivna och handikappade barn, utan utöver social och funktionell rehabilitering verkar den här organisationen för att ge dessa barn en adekvat yrkesutbildning som hjälper dem att bli samhällsnyttiga medborgare med egna inkomster. Som insamlare och samordnare är vi i vår tur mycket tacksamma för allt bistånd och stöd som vi erhåller från andra välgörande organisationer i form av skolmaterial och rehabilitering som del i detta projekt.

Zanzibar är vida berömt för sina utsökta sniderier – en gammal swahilisk mästartradition här. Vi stöttar helhjärtat detta värdefulla initiativ till att föra en gammal kulturtradition vidare till nya generationer.
